My goal is to find a university that can provide me a challenging academic experience, coupled with the opportunity to play the sport I love!!
I live in Saratoga Springs, NY and started playing field hockey in 6th grade, when my gym teacher was doing a unit on it in class and noticed that I had some natural ability. My mom put me in some summer camps the summer before 7th grade and I was hooked! I went on to play modified in 7th and 8th grade and as a starter in 9th grade on the JV team. At the end of 8th grade, my modified coach suggested I would be a good candidate for Futures. In addition to 2 seasons of Futures, I also belong to the ADK Field Hockey Club (Jen and Phil Sykes), and do weight/high intensity training 3x a week. I love field hockey and work hard all year at becoming a stronger player!
I would be a great candidate for a team because I am a positive teammate, a coachable player, hardworking, and I am always determined to be the best I can be. What sets me apart from other field hockey players during competitive games are my stick skills and speed. My high school coaches always warn the defense when I go in (during scrimmages) to play back further because I'm very fast and can maneuver the ball around most defensive players. I am also known to be a playmaker on both my high school and club teams. I am dedicated to being the best and strongest player I can be off the field through high intensity interval training (3x a week) and running. I work hard both on and off the field!
Academically, I have maintained a 3.7 GPA as a student. Academics are a very important to me, and I strive to achieve good grades in all of my classes. I am an honors student in Science and English and just completed 9th grade having made high honor roll every semester. I am also a violinist. I am part of my school's concert orchestra and also take weekly private lessons. I play piano too and have been doing so since I was 6 years old. I am part of student council and the giving circle at school and enjoy reading and being with my friends and family (I have a younger brother and younger sister).
I would like my field of study to be sports medicine or physical therapy. I find both of them to be very interesting, and I'd like to explore these fields further. I am interested in career where I can work with athletes because if I were to get injured, I would want the best treatment and rehabilitation plan to get back on the playing field as soon as possible. I think being an athlete would give me a better perspective on treatment and allow me to be a better care provider to injured athletes.
In summary, I love competing. Field Hockey is the sport I love! I'm determined to continue building my skills to allow me to compete with the best athletes in the country. My goal is to find the right college that fits my needs academically, personally and athletically so that I can play on a college team while obtaining my degree in Health Sciences.
