Allyson Steiner '20 Recruiting Profile

Work hard, study hard, and play hard is my motto! I love sports, and spending time with friends, but I know it is important to put academics first. I'm a senior in the Leadership and International Relations Specialty Center at James River High School in Midlothian, VA. This program is unique because it teaches me to be a leader in the classroom and on the field. We learn how to communicate and work collaboratively with others to accomplish our goals.

My goal is to play field hockey at a school that challenges me academically, while I continue to build friendships, and play the sport I love. I also want the opportunity to be an integral part of the school I attend and part of the community.

I stand out among other recruits because I work hard to earn great grades in the classroom and to have hockey intelligence on the field. I am a well-rounded player and can play multiple positions. I have excellent tactical knowledge and can quickly evaluate a situation on the field and think and execute faster than my opponent.  I bring a positive-can-do attitude to the field. Coaches need strong leaders who encourage and bring out the best in others to help the team achieve success as a whole. I would rather set up a great pass and get the assist, then be the one who scored.

I am a top candidate for your school because I am coach-able. I welcome constructive criticism and always strive to improve my game. I live by my club coaches words - "Practice till you get it right, then keep practicing till you can't get it wrong." I am attending camps, clinics, and playing in showcases as often as possible to better my skills. I am honest, hardworking, and committed to being a team player and leader on the field. I treasure the bonds and friendships I have made because of field hockey, and I look forward to the opportunity of being part of a "field hockey family" in college!
