Hello Coaches,
My name is Matthew McClelland, I am a prospect in the class of 2022, and am currently attending Arete Prep Academy in Gilbert, Arizona. I have loved the game of football ever since I could pick up the ball at 4 years old. I played flag football starting in kindergarten all through elementary school. Then in middle school, I played tackle football all three years. As a freshman and sophomore, I competed at the varsity level as starting quarterback.
Reflecting over my past, there is one thing that always stands out to me, and that is my competitive nature, and my desire to be the best I can possibly be. On the field, I always have the mindset that I am the best player on the field at all times and off the field, I am always searching for ways to better my game and strengthen my skills and knowledge of the game. Academically, in my freshman and sophomore years, I kept a steady 3.3-3.4 gpa throughout the whole two years of school.
Last year, I threw for nearly 2,500 passing yards, and ran for 1,200 yards during the season, and at Free Safety, I had 30 tackles and 9 interceptions. This was my best season playing football, and I was recognized for it when I was nominated for the Ed Doherty award, which is basically the Heisman for Arizona high school football. I was proud to be the only Sophomore nominated for this award amongst the 52 nominees across the state of Arizona.
My goal after high school is to play football at the collegiate level. I know that wherever I go, I will give 100 percent effort into bettering myself and my team.
Thank you for taking the time to read this,
Matthew
