I have been playing football since I was six years old and it is a very important part of my life. My long-term goal is attending a college/university where I can play football and be part of a community that values student-athletes.
I am a rising senior at Carlmont High School and play two varsity sports (football and track). As a sophomore I was starting safety, served as defensive captain, and saw downs on the kickoff team (as gunner) and linebacker, depending on the team's needs. I was honored to be awarded my team's "Most Valuable Defensive Player" award by the coaching staff. However, I sustained a hernia pre-season of my junior year and saw limited play time. I practiced with my team and saw downs as safety and gunner prior to my surgery in October, but could not regularly play due to my injury. This experience has made me even more eager to prove myself in my senior season and make a positive contribution as a player, and leader, on my team. I am 100% healthy now and actively training. I am one of the Varsity co-captains on my school's track team, competing jumps (long and triple) and sprints, training my speed and athleticism so I can be better at football.
I thrive on competition, teamwork, and being part of a community. As a 8th grader, my football team represented the Pacific Northwest division at the Pop Warner Divsion I Super Bowl championship tournament in Orlando in 2018. I started on both sides of the ball (center and defensive end). We lost both games, but we played as a team and I was honored to be part of the game and play at that high level.
I am more than a scholar-athlete. I bring perspective, diversity, and leadership to my team. I understand that being an athlete is a privledge and am grateful. I have Type I diabetes, and through learning to thrive with my illness I have a strong appreciation for the importance of sports in overall health and well-being. Giving back is an important part of my identity. I actively volunteer in diabetes educational activities, including being the VP of my high school's Type I Club (providing education and advocacy for chronic illness) and as a National Youth Ambassador for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). I want to become an MD/PhD and study endocrinology to help others with my condition.
I am also a strong, self-motivated student who understand the importance of challenging myself in the classroom as well as the field. I am taking advanced classes in math and Spanish, and specialized classes through my school's Biotechnology Institute (for details see http://www.carlmontbti.org/), a competitive program I was admitted to in 2020.
I am hard-working and coachable. I understand that football is teamwork, not about a single person, and take my this seriously. My goal is to play football at a college or university that values student-athletes and community. My parents are both college professors and have instilled in me the value of balancing both of these parts of my life, and the importance of using sport to better myself and others. I am open to all options for institutions that can help me achieve these goals and hope that I am the kind of recruit you would like in your program. It would be an honor to play football in college, and I hope I am given the chance to prove how much it means to me.
