I have been fortunate to be apart of a strong football program my freshman and sophomore years. Along with dedicated coaches and teachers my strongest influence is my father, he has taught me the qualities of hardwork and determination. He is a self made business man who has worked hard in the concrete construction field. I have witnessed first hand how this type of focus and hard work can be extremely rewarding, but it is not always an easy journey. This is the type of mindset I believe you have to have to be successful in any athletic endeavor and life.
I became interested in football around 4th grade year when I joined the little league team. The things I have learned about me through playing this sport, hard work pays off,When I push myself to my absolute best I gain more confidence and I am capable of more than I thought. Perseverance also means learning that failing is part of life and practice. The biggest challenge can often be picking yourself up after failing. I am also from a very small school in Colorado. I have learned that I have to have confidence to help myself because I don’t have a lot of the advantages males from the city have. I have to create circumstance to help me improve.
Academics are extremely important to my family and I.My biggest academic goal is to gain scholarships from my grades. This requires a lot of organization on my part, which can be challenging. I am a three sport athlete and have to prioritize my time to make the most of it. The obstacles that I have faced was only older guys playing in front of me, I overcome these challenges by showing up and doing what coach says. I have always tried to play as many sport I possibly can, this has taught me how to lead a team as well stay motivated through long season.
Living in Southwest Colorado can often be an obstacle in sports. We don’t get a lot of exposure and we have to travel hours to attend any additional sports camps/trainings. Another obstacle that I have faced the past two years has been older teammates in front of me. I have overcome this by showing up committed to practice, weight training and any additional football activities. Being a part of a small school mean I have to learn many positions as well. Although I am focused on being a wide receiver I realize my team may need me elsewhere at times and I do my best to fill in many spots if needed. I have always tried to play as many sports as I possibly can, this has taught me how to lead a team as well stay motivated through long seasons.
