My name is Lane Watson. I am a senior at McPherson County High School in Tryon, Nebraska. I have spent my life learning, working, and growing on my family’s cattle/farming operation in the Sandhills of West Central Nebraska. I am very involved in my school, church, and community.
My passion for football started young with participation in competitive football since 3rd grade. My passion fits my stature, as I am 6’ 7” and weigh 320 pounds. I am team captain for an eight-man football team, the Sandhills Valley Mavericks, and play offensive lineman and defensive lineman for my team. I have been recognized as All District First Team Offensive Lineman (19/20) and All District First Team Defensive Lineman (20/21). I am prepared to continue to work hard to earn my place in college football and look forward to being a part of a strong and successful team.
I am currently the Vice-President of our school’s chapter of the National Honors Society (19/20; 20/21), Vice-President of the McPherson County FFA (17/18; 18/19; Secretary 19/20; Vice-President 20/21), and I am Vice-President of my senior class (President 17/18; Vice-President 18/19; President 19/20; Vice-President 20/21). I have participated in Varsity Football (17/18; 18/19; 19/20; 20/21), Varsity Basketball (17/18; 19/20), and Varsity Track (17/18; 18/19; 19/20). I have also participated in One-Act Play (17/18; 18/19; 19/20; 20/21) and Speech Competition (18/19; 19/20).
I experienced an ACL injury in October, my first injury ever sustained in my football career. I have had surgical repair and I am “ahead of expected recovery” according to my surgeon. I am currently working aggressively with a physical therapist and plan to be stronger than ever this spring.
I am no stranger to hard work, long hours, and reliability. I work hard to be a strong leader and inspire others to push themselves to their full potential. I make every effort to be a positive role model for my teammates and for the young kids watching us play our game by modeling integrity and honesty. Being part of a team and supporting my school is very important to me and I look forward to continuing my passion during my college career. I am still deciding on my major, with sports therapy and coaching currently near the top of the list.
