My name is Max Archer, an Offensive Tackle for the Cougars at Columbia High School in New Jersey. I’m 6’3 and weigh 260 pounds. I’ve done other sports like basketball and swimming but I never really enjoyed them as much as football. Football spoke to me because it feels like the most “team” sport. Everyone has a role to play. One singular person can’t carry the team like you can in basketball or soccer, everyone is needed to make the play. So I felt needed when the coach noticed me because I was one of the biggest kids in the room. I’m committed to playing football beyond high school because I love the sport and I love being a part of the team. There’s nothing like getting hype for a game. I also want to be great by working/pushing myself to the limit. In the short time I’ve played this sport, it’s been a big part of my heart. I’ve gotten stronger physically and mentally. My little brother also joined a team which has allowed us to spend more time together and bond. Along with playing football in college, I also have an ambition to study law. This is because I value helping those in need. I’m very coachable and open to any coach across the country. But I’m very interested in HBCUs because I feel I can connect with the people there more. It would make it easier for me and others to be team players.
Another thing about me is my commitment. My favorite words are commitment and discipline. Those are the things needed to be great at football and succeed in the gym. I always liked the grind mindset that comes with being committed to football, you always try not to be “outworked”. The complexity of the game is interesting too because every person has a role. There’s so much technique and minuscule details that can make or break a play. My coach always said to “stay strong in the mind and the body will follow”. I don’t like putting so much strain on my body or going to 6 hour practices sometimes but I always understood it had to be done. I also realized that there is always time and a way to fight for what is right. I might not have to become a public defender, I can do a lot with a law degree. Take Colin Kaepernick, Lebron James, and Kendrick Lamar who advocate for what is morally right without becoming a lawyer. I want to become great at fighting for what is right, commitment, and discipline. Doesn’t matter what I choose to do, I will always commit and fight to pursue my passion.
