Personal Statement

I am a 6' 5", 315 pound offensive guard/tackle/long snapper with a 3.5 GPA, a 5.25 - 40 yard dash, a 4.77 shuttle,24.5" vertical, and a 7' 7" standing broad jump. I was born and raised in North Bay, Ontario, Canada and as of August 2011 reside in Buffalo, N.Y. I am currently attending Canisius High School in Buffalo and I am the starting right tackle on offence and starting nose tackle on the defence for the Varsity team. Our team is undefeated (11-0) for the first time in 36 years. We have won both our League and Playoff Championships and are ranked 1st in New York state.I was named 2012 Varsity Football Overall MVP by our coaching staff for my play on both sides of the ball.. I have been awarded the following honours for 2012 football season: - 1st Team All State New York - as voted by the NY State Sports Writers Association - Western NY Player of the Year by the Buffalo News - Western New York Trench Trophy winner as top lineman - Monsignor Martin Athletic Association (our conference/section) Player of the Year - Tom Day-Tom Sestak Memorial Scholarship Award by the Buffalo Bills Alumni Association as Top Defensive Lineman - Jim Burt Award as Top Defensive Lineman by WNY High School Sports - First Team OL Western NY All Star by Buffalo News, Metro News, & Football Weekly - First Team OL Monsignor Martin Athletic Association -Won 2013 Canadian Weightlifting Championship 105+kg division - 598 lbs total lift I have been named Athlete of the Season (Fall 2012) at Canisius High School. I was also selected lineman of the week in Western NY (week 1), MaxPreps offensive player of the game (weeks 4, 8, & 9), MaxPreps Overall Player of the Game (week 11 Playoff Championship Game),Monsignor Martin Player of the Week (week 9 - league championship game). As well I have been named to the 2012 NUC Second All Star Team as an offensive lineman based upon all of the combine camps they run. I was named the Offensive Line MVP at the NUC 5 Star Junior Camp in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 21st, 2012. I was named Overall Combine MVP at an NUC combine in Toronto on May 12, 2012. In 2011 I was selected as Overall MVP at a National Underclassmen Combine in Richmond, Virginia in March 2011 and placed in the Top 3 OL at the Northeast NUC U100 camp in June 2011 in Delaware. I ranked 3rd out of 18 participants at the NUC Top Prospect Elite Camp on July 23-24, 2011 at the University of Oklahoma. summer I was named Lineman of the Year (2011) for my travel varsity team which competed in the Ontario Football Conference a league based out of the Toronto area. In June 2011 I was named Algonquin High School's 2010-11 Male Athlete of the Year. I also have won 3 Provincial (State) gold medals in discus (2010 & 2011) and shot put (2011). In June 2012 I finished 3rd in the NY State Finals in the discus and was named Canisius Spring Athlete of the Year. I also have competed over the last 2 years in Olympic Weightlifting competitions. I won the Canadian Junior Weightlifting Title in 2012 & 2013 in the 105+kg division with a total lift of 598 lbs. At the end of February 2012 I was voted winner of the Britt Jessup Memorial Trophy by the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame Committee as the Top 2011 Provincial Level Male Athlete in the North Bay area for my football, weightlifting, & track accomplishments. Prior to coming to Canisius I started on O-Line and D-Line for 2 years on JV for the Ecole Secondaire Catholique Algonquin Barons in North Bay, Ontario, Canada. I was team captain my sophmore year and was named team MVP while helping our school to an undefeated season and winning their first title in over 40 years. I am looking for a university that can offer me a good balance between academics and athletics; It has always been my dream to pursue my football career at an American university and compete against the best athletes at the highest level my ability will allow me to play at. This is one of the main reasons that I moved away from home and my family at age 16 and chose to attend Canisius. I believe the high academic standards that Canisius is known for will help me make a smooth transition to university life as a student and ensure my success in my chosen field of study. I have enjoyed the challenge of studying for the first time in English. French is my native tongue and up to this point all my schooling has been done in French only. I finished my junior year with an average of 82.21% at Canisius and received 3rd Honours in marking period 3. In my senior year I have an average of 90.17% in the first marking period (see report card in my profile) and once again received 3rd Honours. My desired majors at present are Psychology, Physiotherapy, Biology, or Criminology/Criminal Justice. I have no preference geographically or in the size of the school. I would like to attend a school which has great community support and interaction with the student/athletes. I look forward to learning about and hearing from any school who believes that I may be a good fit for their school, community, and team.
