Ever since I can remember, I have dreamed of playing professional football. But growing up in Colombia made following my dream that much harder. Everyone in Colombia wants to play soccer. Football training is rare and expensive. A lot more expensive than my family could afford. That is why when I moved to the U.S. in late 2021, I jumped at the opportunity to join my high school team. Football was the only thing that carried me through the shock that was moving to a different country, leaving everything I had ever known, including my friends, my parents, and my grandma. Going to football practice got me out of bed every day and into a school where I knew no one and understood no one. Football gave me the strength to pull through, learn the language, and push myself in the field and academically because for the first time in my 18 years of age, playing college football seemed achievable.
