I am hoping to find a school that is a good fit for me academically and athletically. I am currently considering studying finance and business. My dad worked on wall street for about 15 years. Now both of my parents are entrepreneurs. I think finance and business will be a good base for me whether I decide to go the corporate route or possibly have my own business one day. My dream is to play football in college for the experience and love of the sport. I am goal oriented and am up for challenging myself on every level. I also love being part of a team. My character plays a big part in sports. I am motivated, competitive and always want to be the best that I can be. I want to set a good example for myself but also for my team. I was injured this past football season, fall 2023. It was a blow for sure. Out for six months. I can see how an injury can get in someone’s head and defeat an athlete. I was mentally down for about a week or two. I had a lot of time to think. Thankfully, I accepted what was happening and was able to still see the long term goal and made the best of the down time. I could not wait for the day I was cleared and I am finally there.
I think what makes me a bit different as an athlete is that I have never played on a club team for football or lacrosse. Where I live everyone plays club sports. I am fortunate enough to be able to spend summers at the beach with my grandmother. I am with my parents and brothers the whole summer. I have a job and when I am not working me and my family are fishing, my brothers and I surf, we cook, eat and enjoy. While I do miss playing football competitively those couple of weeks, I get to reboot and spend time enjoying the things around me. I appreciate the balance and the time off allows me to come back stronger and mentally focused on having a great season ahead. Clearly I would play football 24/7 all year long if given the opportunity to play for a college team.
As far as academics I sometimes find it challenging to manage school, sports, family and friends but for the most part I prioritize well and stick to a schedule which is how I operate best. My goal for the remaining school year is to make honor roll. I have done it before, I am striving to end the year with a higher GPA. I took Latin as a language which is definitely not typical. I had a difficult time with Latin when I got into high school. I managed to pass the FLAX at the end of my sophomore year and have my regents degree and no longer have to take a language. Latin was messing with my GPA a bit, very frustrating, I am so glad that it is over with!
