"Football is like life. It requires perseverance, self-denial, hard work, sacrifice, dedication and respect for authority." -Vince Lombardi- Vince said it best! As a three-sport, 6'3" Sophomore starting varsity quarterback at Maiden High school. I have had a passion for football ever since learning from my older cousin, Caleb Farley, who is now a starting freshman cornerback for Virginia Tech. I come from a family of football lovers, and my earliest memories consist of countless weekends attending Panthers games and pre-gaming in the parking lot throwing around the football and hoping to catch a one-on-one with Cam. I have poured countless hours into my throwing mechanics as a quarterback by having coaching professionals critique my form as well as watching and learning from my videos. Continuing my football career into college is my greatest desire, and my dedication to the sport is my top priority. While most of my friends are sleeping in on weekends, my Saturday morning ritual includes waking up at the crack of dawn for the opportunity to have personal football training sessions with non-other than Anthony Boone, Duke's former quarterback.
My summers consist of attending the Peyton Manning football camp, and winning a spot at Top Gun from FBU, weight training, running and being in the best physical shape I can be in. (All while my other friends are out swimming in Lake Norman, wake-boarding on their boats, and basking in the sun mind you.) However, these sacrifices are necessary and I'm confident they will pay off for me as I continue to advance my football career and build on my confidence and abilities. Being elected captain of each of my three sports teams, I have learned that teamwork is vital to our success as well as being dedicated and having a strong work ethic. Even during those painful times of that close-game loss, I have learned to take them as opportunities to grow and build upon. Nothing has been handed to me, and earning it the good old-fashioned hard way has proven to make me even stronger than I could ever imagine. My parents have instilled that in me, and I must admit that my mother has had a very strong influence in ensuring that I also maintain my 4.25 GPA as well, even with my rigorous training schedules. Being well-rounded, she says, is the key to true success. I'm truly excited what the next few years of growth will bring me as I continue on my football journey. I have a lot more to learn, and am ready for the next challenge!
