Throughout my high-school football career, I have learned to “take a step back and punt” both on and off the field. As a punter, my job is to change field position in the game when as a team we are at a disadvantage and unlikely to obtain a first down. I see punting as a parallel to life. As obstacles arise, I find myself having to “take a step back and punt” to gain a better position to reach my goals. I personally experienced this when I suffered an ankle injury at the beginning of my junior year season, which took six months to fully recover. Being determined to press on through the time it took to heal and rebuild was a lesson in patience and endurance as I continued to strive toward my goal of playing college level football as a punter. However, it was my passion and love of the game that motivated me not to give up. This passion, which had fueled the many hours spent in training prior to my injury, now kept me focused and driven past the injury. Through this challenge, I have become stronger by learning the importance of setting goals and working hard to achieve them.
I also saw this play out with my high school team as we developed and progressed from a 1-10 record in 2017 to 10-3 this year, obtaining the title of County Champions and making it to the second round of the state playoffs. Through these experiences, I am more than ready to face the challenge of playing football in college and welcome the opportunity to do so. I am a strong, dedicated, and determined punter ready to perform at the next level.
