To Whom It May Concern,
My name is Marquel King, and I am a 17 year old starting Cornerback for Overhills High School in Spring Lake, North Carolina. I’ve been playing football for 11 years and it has always been a dream of mine, as well as a goal of mine, to play college football. I am a highly competitive person both on and off the field, and I strive to better myself each and every day in everything I attempt. In the classroom, my competitive nature and relentless quest to better myself has led to my achieving a high grade point average while taking challenging honors classes. On the field, my dedication to my team, my ability to quickly learn any scheme, and my ability as an athlete to improve my skills translated into me becoming a starting free-safety the final three varsity games of my sophomore year, and for my whole junior year. For this year, my senior year, I am expected to be a leader on the defense, and lock down my side of the field as a cornerback . In addition to my role as a player, I help instruct young and inexperienced defensive backs as to their positions and our defensive schemes.
As far as college, it would be realistic for any coach and team to expect me to positively impact a program- whether it is through my capacity to lead and learn on the field, in the locker room, or especially in the classroom. It is not just my goal to play football at an academically and athletically competitive institution but it is my goal to excel in the classroom, to gain a degree to prepare myself for my life after football as well as to learn football on the high level that collegiate competition offers.
