My name is Lorenzo Rust and I am an Italian-American 17 year old senior in high school. I am both excited and nervous to introduce myself to you. My mother immigrated from Italy when she was 18, she learned to speak English while attending the University of Oregon. She still faces adversity due to her accent. This has shown me to be understanding of peoples differences.
I have been playing football since the 5th grade, prior to that I have grown up swimming, taking hip-hop dance classes and playing tennis, however since the first moment I started playing football I fell in love with the sport. I particularly like the strategic side of the game as well as the family that I have created in the past 7 years.
Because of my size I always had to work harder to develop my body and my strength. Being a taller and bigger human has taught me the importance of working hard to improve my agility, my speed and mobility. It also taught me to be kind and respectful to other humans. I continue everyday to working on improving both my physical and personal qualities. Most importantly I have learned to never quit even when faced with adversity.
The past couple of years have been very challenging for my generation especially with COVID and the on line learning. I definitely do better in a classroom setting and interacting with people. For me personally the past year was very difficult when my mother was diagnosed with cancer in June 2021 and started treatment. During this time I had to step up and embrace the role of primary caretaker of my grandparents who currently live with us. It was not always easy, however family is very important to me and it is a priority. I am also happy to say that my mother is doing well and I am looking forward to celebrate her last treatment which is scheduled for November 3rd, 2022.
My father is a veteran of the USAF. He served for 10 years both in the states and abroad. His years in the service taught him about the world and how we are all connected. He has shown me hard work and ethics will give you a strong base in life.
My goals for the future is to attend college and focus on Engineering or Architecture, I would like to focus on either civil or structural engineering, I guess another way to say it is I would like to work towards having better designed buildings and structures. I would also love to be able to continue to playing football during my college career. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me.
