My name is Colin Porasky, I am a student athlete for Tunkhannock High School. As passionate as I am about football, I realize grades come first. This is evident through my 3.91 GPA, and my consistent appearance on the honor roll. I realize that football won't last forever but an education will. Coming back to football, I have been dedicated to football my whole life, from watching football every Sunday with my father as long as I can remember, to repeatedly begging my mother to throw the football with me outside on our trampoline. My father is the hardest working man I've ever met through going to work every day and coming home and constantly doing jobs around the house during his time off from work. During the summer I work with him through organizing events, and parties through his business G&B Tent Rental, which he has been doing 20 years. He is my biggest motivation, always pushing me to better myself and train harder to be a successful football player, but more importantly a better human being. My mother is another hard worker, through working all day as a nurse to coming home and making food and cleaning up after the three kids (four counting my father). She is also my biggest motivation, always pushing me to become a better caring, humble, God loving human being. Ever since they were big enough to throw and catch a football I've been in my backyard with my sister, Kelsey(12), who has aspirations to become a vet later in life. Along with my brother, Caden(10) who is the quarterback/wide receiver for the junior tiger team. (Yes I know, I guess he got the good genes). My brother and sister, along with my two yellow Labrador dogs, are my best friends, although we may argue with each other a lot, at the end of the day there isn't anything I wouldn't do for them.
My abilities as a football player stretch beyond the 6'4 280 lb behemoth in the trenches to a leader on and off the field. To show this I don't have to go much farther than training with my little brother. He is dedicated to football just like me and I love taking him under my wing through going in the backyard and working on his arm strength, agility, route running. Then getting him in the basement gym and working on getting him stronger through running him through basic lifts and building that foundation strength before he is old enough to really start lifting heavy. My leadership abilities also translate to the weight room and football field. In the weight room i'm always on my teammates that aren't attending to get in there, and once they are in there I am looking out for them through helping them with specific exercises, form, and cheering them on when its time to hit 1 rep maxes. On the field i'm hyping my team up whether it's getting them going on a random Wednesday in October, or if its coming up with some emotional speech on game day.
Next I would like to talk about my dedication to football. I first started playing organized football in 6th grade and all was going well up until 4 weeks before the season when I was informed there was a weight limit and I was 25 lbs above it. You could tell right away the coaches didn't think I could do it, as they began to work other kids in in my place. This was devastating news but my passion to play the game I loved since I could form memories was just too strong. I came home that night and made a list of things I can do to lose weight as quickly as possible. I started off with early morning treadmill runs, I would wake up tired, and sore from practice the night before, trying to think of any excuse i had to not do it; but i couldn't think of anything stronger than my desire to play the sport I've been dedicated to for all my life. Combine the approximate 4 miles on the treadmill a day, football practice with the fuel of slim fast shakes for breakfast, salads for lunch, small portions for dinner, and slim to no carbs, I finally started to see the pounds roll of and the coaches begin to have faith. I was able to lose the weight before my fourth game in, and start as defensive tackle for the rest of the season. That season ended in getting blown out in the league championship, and motivation on to the next year. I then moved on to 7th grade starting at offensive guard for the first time, and ending in a 4-6 record. The next year in 8th grade i was still playing Guard, but I also reclaimed my spot at D-Tackle, ending in a 9-1 record, barely losing the last game in a snowy heart-breaker. My freshman year I wasn't able to crack the varsity lineup after being moved to Offensive Tackle trying to find a spot on the team. I started at Offensive and Defensive Tackle for JV the entire year, but the entire year I was focusing on finding a spot in varsity. That was a horrible season in varsity as we only managed to win 1 game all year long, but going 4-4 for JV. That off season is where I really started working in weight room. The work payed off as my sophomore year I got my first varsity experience starting every game at right Offensive Tackle, and not allowing a single sack the entire year. Unfortunately my efforts were not enough as we went 3-7, once again leaving motivation to make the next year different.
My junior year, under a new offensive line coach, really hit my stride at Offensive Guard. I was a dominant force on the line, once again not allowing a sack, and a key cog in our offense which contained the leading passer, receiver, kicker, and fourth-leading rusher in the 4A division which also held the state-runner up Dallas Mountaineers. We finished our season 5-5, and had our first playoff appearance in 12 years. This lead to me winning our School's Offensive Lineman of the Year Award. With a young team last year and the playoff win drought continuing, we are hungry for more and have our eyes set on Districts. However High School football is just too short as next year is my last year as a Tunkhannock Tiger, but my passion is too strong and I want to use my God given abilities, and hard work to play football in college, where ever that may be. I am interested in all schools ,and if interested please contact me over my cell phone, or on twitter. Thank you for your time, and your consideration.
