My name is Johnathan Herman Harsch. I am 17 and play wide receiver on the varsity football team for the B. Reed Henderson High School Warriors. I have been playing tackle football since 7th grade. I also run track (4 x1) and in the past have competed in the long jump. Presently I am also on the Bocce Team that works with special needs high school teens in competition. I have spent my life playing sports, soccer, basketball, football , track and wrestling. Our football season is all year with weight training and footwork in the off season. Presently we weight train 3 days a week with one of those days spent on footwork or other skills.
Academically, I have overcome many challenges and have moved my way up into honors classes. I enjoy the sciences, history and also am studying Latin. I am very active at school and participate in the Black Student Union, was chosen to participate in a special leadership program (8th grade -only two students from each school) and also participated recently on the Student equity panel to discuss how we can improve our community and provide opportunities for minorities.
I am very community oriented and enjoy volunteering with different programs. I have help collect money for the Lions Club, supported Women's Abuse shelters, local animal rescues, served a dinner at a homeless shelter. This past summer I worked as a counselor for the Jack Brewer Foundation down in Maryland at a camp for disadvantaged children, and also went to several of Jacks training camps and help him run training exercises for younger kids wanting to play football. I am also involved in the Andrew Hicks foundation and helped at a local positive community session in Chester this past fall. I will be working at Paradise Farm Camps (also associated with the Hicks Foundation) this summer being a counselor for kids coming to their Day Camp. I assist my Mom with her Pet care business and enjoy working and caring for animals.
I plan to pursue Sports Management in college with an emphasis on Communications. I want to carry forward all my education to make a difference in the world. I want kids to know that they can play athletics and still have other interests, that they can make a difference in their local communities by giving back.
My sports goals are that I want to make a difference in the team. I also want to develop my individual talents to help my team flourish. I want to be successful on and off the field and continue my leadership after college. Personally, I have had bumps in the road and i have had to push through them and I never gave up. I want to continue to inspire people to believe in themselves, to strive for their goals in life. Even when you get hurt you can still be part of your team and show leadership and perseverance in many ways. Dedication is everything.
I look forward to speaking with you.
John
