This, my junior season, is only my 3rd year of tackle ball. Prior to my freshman season the last football I had played was 5th grade flag football. As you can imagine I had some ground to make up. I have done this moving from 4th string freshman B team to starting freshman B team - From JV A team backup to JV A team starter.
In our first varsity game this year I didn't get in until the last defensive series of the first half. After making two stops in that series and after we sent our opponent three and out, I started and played most of the 2nd half.
I know my goals and have worked hard to achieve them. After my freshman season I set my sights on college ball. I have worked each offseason focused on the next season and on my college goals. Since the end of my freshman season to the beginning of my junior season I have put on 58 lbs of bulk.
This past offseason, as I looked at the projected D-line, I saw one open spot for starter. I won that by spring ball. However, a broken hand in the last scrimmage before our spring game changed all that. I was unable to attend any summer camps so that my hand would be fixed by the regular season. I spent 6 weeks doing what I could in the weight room while waiting on the doctor's release. Once that release came through I pushed hard to regain strength and size and I hit my pre-season weight goal of 230. While I was not a starter in week 1, I was ready to help my team when they sent me in.
We went all the way to the semi finals, ending with an 11-4 record and losing by only three points to the eventual state champions in their hardest game at that point. We fought relentlessly coming back from being down 14-35 at halftime to a terrifyingly close finish 42-45.
Now, in the offseason, we are pushing ourselves to be back again.
