A major influence of who I am as a person today comes through the experiences I have encountered through athletics. I have competed at a high level in various sports, with the most time focused on football and wrestling. These two sports are closely related and I have been able to draw on my personal experiences in each to help me be a better team player and role model on both teams. In wrestling I have competed on the national level, traveled the country, and learned about many keys to life such as discipline, tenacity and adversity. These lessons early in life helped me come close to achieving a lifelong goal of being a high school state champion. I came up short in last year’s state champion ship losing a close match to the returning state champion. That loss has driven me to become a more focused athlete and a better team leader. As a sophomore I was a leader on the wrestling team; as a junior I have become a better leader through my actions – leading by example and by encouraging others. All the years of travel through athletic with my family across the country has helped teach me the importance of team, and how no one individual comes before the good of the whole.
My academic goal in high school is to push myself as hard as I can to prepare me for a rigorous college experience. I am currently enrolled in the International Baccalaureate program as well as taking AP honor classes and concurrent enrollment courses at the local junior college. These experienced have taught me about the value of hard work and persistence though a heavy work load and the preparation required for big exams. For college I would like to continue this work to best prepare myself for a successful professional career. I feel my experiences have prepared me well to be the ultimate team player and a positive contributor to any college program.
