I have always known that I want to play college basketball. My grandfather, George Corder, is a hall of Famer at the University of Nevada, Reno from the Championship team of 1965. So the dream has always been right there in front of me. I've been playing AAU travel ball since 2nd grade and played on the NorCal Pharaohs Elite team last summer. To develop my skills even further, I've been traveling 2.5 hours each way every week for the last 6 years to work with Kevin Wilkerson, a personal basketball trainer. This year, I added strength and speed training with Mike Kelly in Reno - 3 hours away.
I started as the point guard for Fall River High School's JV team and then earned a spot as a sophomore on our varsity team. Fall River High did not have a 2020-21 season due to Covid, but Coach Kele Fitzhugh from Shasta College invited me to join his team's summer college basketball class twice a week - it was an honor to practice with their team.
I'd love to follow in my grandfather's footsteps and am shooting for UNR, and am interested in pursuing this as far as I can take it. Right now, the academic areas I am most interested in are Administration of Justice and Business.
My work ethic and experience set me apart from most players my age. I have been working on my family farm every hay season since I was 12 years old as a harrow bed operator, working alongside the hay crew. I know what it means to put in the hours to get the job done. While farm work is hard work, it also taught me to work as a team to be successful. Both my farm work and basketball experience have taught me the value of being a team player. I have especially appreciated the value of teamwork this year, now that I'm playing with new teams. I have been told I have great court vision and a high basketball IQ. Even though scoring is fun, my favorite thing is to make a great pass.
