Personal Statement

Hello, my name is Joel Crandall and I am a basketball player from Redding, California. I have a desire to play basketball at the collegiate level and get my degree in business finance.

What I bring to a team is a combination of leadership, determination, tenacity on the defensive end, facilitation, shooting, and scoring.

I am currently at Foothill High School in Palo Cedro, California. I am going into my senior year this fall and will expect an exceptional year academically and athletically. My coaches are Bill Elliot, our head coach, who does an exceptional job at teaching us how to play the game the right way. What I believe separates me from most recruits is my determination to get better every day. I also love serving others and giving back to the community. I volunteered at a distribution center during the Carr Fire by giving out food supplies and other necessities to those who had lost their homes. To better myself, I regularly attend church services to improve my inner self and to grow mentally.

  • The season started great. The team was off to a great start, I was the starting point guard and we were on our way then Covid hit and the season got completely shut down. I turned my attention to individual skills training and used the time as an opportunity to get better at my individual game till the season picked back up again three months later. Once we reassembled, I was looking the best I had and was expecting a great season. I started off a little rough but picked up quick and the hard work started to show. Our team was showing positive flashes but we were not performing to our best ability. As we continued in more tournaments we were improving each game as well as my individual play, I was hitting my shots and creating looks and opportunity’s for others and myself. After a few tournaments we were shut down again for about a month and a half, players came and went, but I stayed on top of my game the whole time. Our first tournament back we did great— I was honored to led the way by creating opportunities for myself and my teammates. I was playing my best basketball of my life up to that point and I was performing consistently for the next few tournaments up until school.

  • During Joel's High School career, he has gone to the gym three to five days a week, averaging 500 shots making 70% of them. 15 minutes of Ball handling, and after school, he would focus on more skill work such as footwork, finishing, and ball handling. During summer he would do the same workouts, adding other skills/ shooting workouts and getting quicker and stronger in the weight room.
