I want to go to college to make a better life for myself. I want to be able to have a great job if I do not make it to the NBA. I would like for basketball to pay for my college education so my parents will not be responsible for paying the bill. If I don't get drafted into the NBA I would play overseas in Europe for two years and then save my money and come back to the US to start a living. I want to use my knowledge of basketball to help out kids just starting. I am learning that I will only be as good as the players I have around me. Since starting in the point guard position last year for my middle school I am working on being the best leader possible. I direct my team and coach them in the game so they know where to be. I also use this when I started with my new AAU team. I like the shooting guard position and work on my shots but they needed someone to be a point guard and asked me to play that position. It was hard at first to get new players to listen to me but I was able to get them to listen. Once we started to win games they knew I could take control. Now that I am going into the 8th grade I will still be point guard for my middle school but I get to go back to being a shooting guard for my AAU team. I am excited. I also work out with my father 6 days a week in the gym. We lift weights and this is making me stronger. For my travel team I had to play all 5 positions because we didn't have any big men. I also practice 2 hours every day on ball handling, shooting, passing and making smart decisions. My dad records all my games so we also review them to see what I did right and wrong. When we see something we work on it to make it better. I stay active and play basketball all year. I recently played this past summer with the high school players in New Haven. You can see my stats on my profile. I also came in 3rd place for the 3 point contest beating out 27 other contestants. These are some of the things that make me a great candidate for your team and I am constantly developing.
I am different from other recruits because of my hard work and dedication to improving. I want to be the best player ever and be recognized as the best that ever played. I can only get there with hard work. I know I can be the best and it shows in my performance and attitude on and off the court. When I started playing 5 years ago I didn't have such a good attitude when playing basketball. After I started developing and getting better, coaches started to notice me. But they also saw I had a bad attitude. A lot of coaches sat down and talked to me to explain I need to not show my emotions on the court but let it out when I play by scoring and playing great defense. Now I can hold a conversation with other players and not place the blame. My coaches say this is what a good leader does and it shows when we play games. Winning isn't everything but its a better feeling than losing. So I play hard until the game is over. This is another way that I keep my attitude good. I don't give up because when you give up people can see it on your face. This isn't good because it shows you have a bad attitude. Great leaders lead and never quit even when you are down you have to make it to the other side and hopefully there is victory on that other side.
I just don't lead on the court with my skills but I also lead in the classroom. I am an honor student for the past 5 years. My dad makes sure that I get my homework done and I do it everyday. He always says to get it done today so I don't have to worry about it tomorrow. I also tell my teammates its important to do your work and get a good education. Without education you cannot get a good job. Without a good job you cannot get a house or the nice things in life. Plus I want to be able to read and understand my NBA contracts.
I hope you have learned some things about me that will help you make a decision if I am a good fit for your program in the future. I will be going to high school next year and look forward to meeting with some of you in that time.
Thank you for your time.
