My name is Noah Volel, and I am an eighteen-year-old student-athlete. I currently attend Doctor's Charter School of Miami Shores as a senior and will be graduating this year. I started playing basketball at DCS in 6th grade and transitioned from middle to JV and finally last year to the varsity team's captain playing point guard, shooting guard, and small forward. I will now be playing at Mater Lakes Academy, for my final year of high school basketball.
Aside from being an athlete, I am a student. Since starting high school, I am proud to say that I have been on the honor roll, and last year was inducted into the National Honor Society. This year I am the vice president of the Brother II Brother organization. This organization is dedicated to equipping young men with the leadership skills they need to become empowered and successful young men. Alongside the Brothers and my family's own nonprofit foundation, I take part in many community service activities, from feeding the homeless to collecting items needed for relief efforts in the Bahamas.
This year, with the Covid-19 pandemic, so much has changed. For one, basketball may not be an option at school, demanding me to work much harder independently. I am confident, however, that I will make an impact on any team I play for. I can score from the inside and out. I make sure to move a lot without the ball, and with the ball, I look to drive or take a jump shot. I make sure that I get my team involved, so they are also putting up their points.
I have a great personality on and off the court. Most say that I am a friendly and cool person to be around off the court; however, my whole demeanor changes when I am on the court. I play to make sure my coach knows that I deserve to stay on the court for offense and defense. I play to be an extension of the coach while on the court. And most importantly, I play because I love the game. I will continue to work hard and be the most influential player on and off the court so that I am eligible to play college basketball. I have been playing basketball since I was four years old, and it isn't only a passion but a way of life.
