Aloha, my name is Kona Fermantez, I’m a Senior at Kahuku High school. I’m the 2nd of 6 kids and next to God and my family, my priority has been my studies and my game. l’m a 6ft Guard for the Kahuku Varsity Basketball team and have worked hard to strengthen all aspects of my game, but showed the most strength this season and in the off- season in my shooting, assists, and defense. I have done my best to maintain a 4.0 GPA throughout highschool while striving to develop my Basketball IQ and skills each day. Basketball is not a huge focus in my community since football takes precedence, so we dont have the best basketball training facilities or club opportunities, but I ‘ve been able to suit up with my Coach and other Kahuku players to practice on park courts and back yards and compete at the highest level in our State. Our team reached the finals in the D1 conference and came in 3rd in our D1 State tournament just under 2 private school teams.
Since the pandemic, we’ve been under partial lockdown and sports teams haven’t been able to practice or compete, so I’ve been training on my own at home, as well as linking to zoom training sessions with my coach and other trainers in the state and on social media. I’ve also been focusing on strength training and injury prevention to help improve my game. I believe I’m a team player that’s coachable. I’m determined to learn something new and help my team reach their goals through hard work and dedication. I’m not afraid to ask for advice and critique and I believe in putting in 100% whether it’s in practice or in a game.
My college goals are to study engineering and be given an opportunity to play college basketball so I can continue to learn and improve on the game that I love and help my team reach their goals.
Thank you for your time
Mahalo and Aloha, Kona Fermantez
