I’m a little unique in the fact that I was never pushed into sports as a kid; I was drawn to them of my own accord. I discovered basketball in elementary school and have developed a passion for it ever since. My dad is an immigrant from Norway, where basketball isn’t very widespread, so I had to learn about it on my own or by the help of friends or coaches. This benefited me by letting me create an individual passion for the sport. As a basketball player, I feel one of the biggest contributions to making me who I am is that I’m on the younger side of my age group. Not growing as quickly as my teammates commonly caused me to be passed up for some of the top teams. This forced me to learn to be patient and develop determination. I had to work extra hard to earn my way onto every club team. Now I play for one of the best clubs in the state. I feel these experiences have helped me become a solid player on both ends of the floor. They also helped me become a leader who’s energy is contagious. I believe my willingness to do whatever it takes (going for every loose ball, never taking a play off) and energy helps inspire my teammates to play their hardest. The best example of this would be helping to lead my high school JV team to the championship game for the first time in many years. I not only have good grades in school, but can apply my quick learning abilities to basketball as well. I’m quick to learn plays and can get a feel for what the other team is doing. I feel these traits would make me a solid asset to a collegiate program.
