Hi, my name is Xander Smith. I have been swimming since I was 5 years old and it has been a huge influence in my life and I love participating in it. That's why I want to pursue it at the collegiate level and continue its positive impact in my life. I have also been involved in many other sports including football, baseball, and track. However, swimming is my passion and where I excel.
Swimming has helped me in many ways. I have learned to manage my time well. I usually swim every day for either my high school or club team and sometimes have done multiple sports (at the same time) while still maintaining good grades at school. I have been taking several honors classes and plan to continue taking a rigorous schedule and still maintain my rank at the top of my class. I also have learned perseverance throughout the years. For example, I was unable to drop time in one of my races for about a year but I continued to work hard and try to improve. Finally at the Winter Championships meet for club swimming, I dropped several seconds and placed 2nd in the event. Another trait I've learned is being self-motivated. During my freshman year, I did practices on my own, without my workout group, while I was doing track. I had to push myself to do well in the workouts and improve. I think these traits will help me face the challenges of being a student athlete at the collegiate level. Outside of school and swimming, I also do service activities with my church youth group and care for 50+ chickens and ducks to sell their eggs.
I am looking for an athletic program that will also be a good fit for me academically. In the pool, I plan on being an asset and a positive influence on the team. I look forward to communicating with coaches to confirm we are the right fit for each other.
