Isaiah Camper - 2023 SG/PG
I grew up in a household with my grandmother and my uncle, my birth mother was an addict at the time and all I had to rely on was my Granny. She took me in as soon as I was born, she told me all i ever did when I was younger was have a ball in my hand, even my first word was ball so from the jump I was around the sport all my life, As a kid I didn't realize the sacrifices she made for my sister and I or how much of an impact we had on her. My grandmother was always supportive in whatever I wanted to do. When I decided I was ready to play Parks & Rec the first sport I tried out was baseball, I didn't like it being out in the heat for 8 innings so I dropped that and tried soccer. If it wasn't for basketball I'd probably be playing soccer because I was almost equally as good at soccer as I was at basketball. However I had to choose between my two favorite sports and personally I think I made the best decision of my life so far deciding to follow through on my basketball dreams of going to college and making it a living to put that orange ball in that net everyday till I physically can't anymore. Playing the sport of basketball has its ups and definitely has its downs, I have been playing this sport on a team ever since the 5th grade and there have been a lot of obstacles that I've got through that's gotten me to this point i'm at right now. Yet i'm still here standing after a concussion injury, sprained ankle, broken wrist, and a handful of more little tweaks I've had over the last 12 years of my life. This however has affected my mentality growing up playing over the years, I feel I have become more aggressive when attacking, more patient running offenses, and taking better shots, I feel that I am very skilled in what I do, I also feel as if I have a lot to learn in particular areas of my game. I know for one I need to work on my defense, I have improved over the past years and can hold my own against a defender or when I'm defending but there is always room to improve.
In conclusion I believe I would be a good candidate for any program willing to work with me, I work very well with others and can tend to take on a leadership role in certain situations when I feel is needed. I feel I'm different from other players you might be looking at because when I was younger I was bigger and taller than most kids, so I was made into a center, playing that role for 2 years, that means that I know how to work the post at the guard spot, and I can defend pretty well against big's as well.
