Sports have always been a very important part of my life. I have been playing organized basketball since I was in the 4th grade. I played little league and travel baseball as well up until I was 13. I excelled at both and was always told I was a naturally good baseball player and had all the skills to play in high school and in college as well if I stuck with it. However, in my heart it never compared to the feeling I got prior to playing basketball games. Ever since I was little, I always dreamed of playing basketball in college. In middle school, I led the entire league in scoring and was up for the MVP award until COVID hit and I didn’t get to finish out my 8th grade year. Then, after making my high school team my freshman year, leading my JV team in scoring and rebounding, I found that with continued hard work and a good attitude that my goal of possibly playing college basketball one day could actually become a reality. I consider myself to have strong ball handling skills and a high basketball IQ which translates to having good court awareness and enables me to quickly analyze any situation and react accordingly. As a guard or small forward being able to see the whole court to make quick decisions has always been a strength of mine. Offensively, I think I move well without the ball and have always been one of the best shooters and scorers on my AAU and high school teams. Defensively, I feel I guard my opponent in the paint very well. I would say boxing out and rebounding are things I excel at and love doing. This past summer, I led my team in scoring, averaging 16.5 points per game and had the opportunity to play in the NXTPRO Hoops Puma Nationals in Lincoln, Nebraska.
I consider myself a leader on and off the court, consistently maintaining a high GPA in the 3.4 to 3.8 range and have been on the honor roll every year through my junior year. My current high school coach just asked me to lead both the girls and boys varsity team in our afterhours study hall program. I have worked extremely hard to become the basketball player and student I am today. My day starts at 5:30 a.m., working out with a speed and agility trainer, then its home to clean up and off to school for the day with team basketball workouts in the evening. I want to attend a college where I am challenged both in the classroom and on the basketball court. I’ve always set goals and pushed myself to be better than I am today so finding the right college for me to continue that drive both on and off the court is very important to me. My longer terms goals are to graduate with a degree in business administration or similar field of study such as economics or possibly finance and then find a job doing something close to that area of study. I believe I can give back to whatever university I attend by being a successful graduate and as I progress further in life make them proud as a future alumni.
