My name is Dawson Grizzle, from Delton Kellogg Schools, Delton MI. I am the youngest of six kids, so growing up competition was always really high. When I was younger my goal was always to be better than my siblings at whatever we do. As I grew up and I started getting into basketball around fifth grade, I narrowed that goal onto my brother, who was one of the top players on his high school team. I wanted to be better than him, so I have always worked harder than everyone else. Now that I'm in my senior season, I am the top player on my team and want to extend my talent as much as I can and continue playing beyond high school.
Growing up with a competitive family, I always work hard at basketball. I make sure that I'm working the hardest in games, and at practice. This year my coach has put a lot of trust in me. I am a team player and also the main player on my team. I already played several games without coming out of the game. While I'm in the game I make sure that the other team only gets one shot while they are on offense, and that my team gets the best shot while we are on offense.
Delton is a class C school, with my grade only having 65 students in it, so I try to put my self in as many school activities as I can, to be able to meet most of our small community. I participate in four school sports throughout the year (Soccer, Cross Country, Basketball, and Track), with doing Robotics, Y mentoring (Big Bother Big Sister), and Student Council as well. In StuCo I had to take a leadership role as a freshman because I was appointed to take over the head chair of Delton's founders day 5k race, and the StuCo Fun Run for the K - 4 graders. This has tough me how to be a good leader, and how to handle stressful situations. Because I took over the races my fellow StuCo members wrote an essay about me nominating me for the Unsung Hero Award at the Michigan StuCo state meeting. which I did win.
