"Some people want it to happen, some wish it to happen, others make it happen"- Michael Jordan
Hard work is a driving force of personal and professional success, serving as the stone behind achievement and growth. It encourages discipline, resilience, and a strong work ethic, enabling individuals to overcome challenges and reach their goals. In a world that often values talent and intelligence, it is commitment to hard work that frequently sets successful individuals apart. By dedicating time and effort to honing skills and pursuing aspirations, people not only enhance their capabilities but also inspire those around them, creating a culture of perseverance and ambition. I personally value hard work as one of the most important virtues in life and I practice each day. Whether its staying after basketball camps to get shooting and form tips from NBA shooting coach Tim Sullivan, getting up early to lift and being in the gym late working on skills, or finding every opportunity to pick up a basketball, my love for the game reflects in the work I put into it. Not only would this alone be why I am a good candidate for a team, but I would also encourage others to do the same. My sophomore year I was one out of six people in my school invited to the Section V Student Leadership Conference. I was chosen because I instilled the values that I had into my teammates to make it a better environment, and one that encouraged winning. I was also awarded back to back sportsmanship awards freshman and sophomore year in soccer, and was chosen to be the team captain my sophomore and senior year in basketball. Outside of athletics, my work ethic shows in the classroom and the community. I have been chosen for high honor roll (90 or above average) in all four years of high school, was accepted into National Honor Society my senior year, was awarded with the principles award given to 2 students per grade that exhibit characteristics of citizenship, compassion, leadership, and are hard-working, the scholar athlete award for maintaining a 90 or above average during sports seasons, was awarded a St. Bonaventure scholarship award for displaying core values of their university like community, integrity, wisdom, social responsibility, academic excellence, and appreciation of diversity, and the tri-athlete award for participating in 3 or more sports Sophomore year. In the community, I volunteer for biddy basketball, which is a program run by the school where I coach youth on the basic fundamentals of the game. I also participated in the Senior Mentorship Program, where I worked one on one with an upcoming sixth grader to show him how school would be like in the new building. Overall, hard work has a huge impact on my day to day life as a value I hold to the highest standard. My energy on and off the court show that I would be a good candidate for colleges. My goal is to work as hard as I can every day to become the best I can be.
