In all aspects of my life, I strive to be the best version of myself. Each time I step out onto the court, I am focused on working hard and determined to enhance my skills. As a dedicated athlete, I learn from both my coaches and teammates to help improve my craft. In the classroom, my studies are extremely important. Just like in a game, I am a motivated student who rises with each new challenge. Playing basketball on the collegiate level is an amazing opportunity and a dream I hope to fulfill.
Lead by example. Don't blend in. Encourage and support your teammates. These statements have been ingrained in me as I grew up on the basketball court. Being named captain of several of my teams has been an honor and a role I have taken seriously. I have also been given the opportunity to speak to the youth basketball programs in my town. This has allowed me to share my knowledge and give back to my community. When I am locked into a game, my focus is on the court, the players and the ball. I play both in the moment and plan for the next few moves ahead. I have strong ball handling skills, a powerful defense, mental toughness and a high basketball IQ. My work ethic sets me apart from others, with a determination to learn and succeed. My mental and physical practice of the game is ongoing.
My dedication to basketball is a year round commitment. Since the age of eight, I have participated in multiple recreation leagues including Catholic Youth Organization, Jewish Community Center, Long Beach Middle and High School teams, Varsity Summer Basketball and Game 7 AAU. I spend time weekly with a personal trainer on and off the court. Over the years, I have received leadership and best sportsmanship awards within these leagues. I am also a member of the Varsity Volleyball team, receiving the recognition of a scholar athlete and an All-Conference player. Throughout the summer, I spend my time working at a local sports camp, refereeing youth sports and volunteering as an assistant basketball coach for boys and girls in grades three through seven.
As a student, I work hard to maintain a 3.8 GPA. I am a member of the Senior Class, acting as a class representative. In addition, I am a part of my school’s wind ensemble and jazz band, playing the trombone. Being in the jazz band has given me the opportunity to participate in both school and community events. I am also a NYSSMA Majors gold recipient. As a dedicated student- athlete, I understand the importance of balancing my academic responsibilities and my commitment to sports. This includes prioritizing tasks and responsibilities, proactive communication with my teachers and coaches, utilizing downtime, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
I am looking forward to finding the educational institution that is the best fit for me. A place where I can flourish and grow. Beyond this, I am eager to immerse myself in becoming an active member of my college community.
