Since I was a toddler I have had a love for basketball. My mom bought me my first Fisher Price hoop when I was 2 years old and she says I used to play all time with my older brother and my dad. After my mom and dad separated we moved to Cleveland, OH and my mom noticed the only time I was happy was when I was playing basketball with my older brother and because it was the only connection I had to my dad. At the age of 5 my mom signed me up to play for the YMCA mini hoops division and my passion for the sport grew even deeper. Although I played other sports when I was young, the only sport I cared to continue playing was basketball. However, my mom made it clear that if I wanted to continue to play basketball, I needed to get good grades in school. At the age of 6 we moved back to New York City and since then I have played with various basketball organizations such as Fastbreak Kids, Yorkville Youth Organization and have been playing every summer since I was 9 years old with NYC Bombsquad Basketball Classics.
I was excited when I entered Middle School and was able to play on the school's team where I was captain and starting point guard. My excitement grew more as I entered High School. I started on the Junior Varsity team in my freshman year and quickly became captain and then again in my sophomore year. I have been on the Varsity team since my junior year and now as a senior look forward to having another great basketball season. In anticipation to going to college next year, I have started working with a personal basketball trainer to take my skills to the next level.
My dream since I was a young kid was to go to college and play basketball and hope to someday play on the professional level. My brother and I would sit and watch college ball on the TV and I have always believed that will be me one day. While in college I plan to major in business because my brother and I have said when we grow up we are going to start our own basketball organization so we can coach, motivate and inspire the next generation of ball players. I am thankful my mom started me in sports at a young age because it has kept me focused at home and at school, made me a better student and athlete and has aspired me to work harder to make my dreams come true.
