My mentality in life is to be good at anything, you'll have to fail. I took this way of thinking to basketball because I realized that to be good at certain skills you are going to make many mistakes. I first realized this when I was trying to get better at defense. I learned that to be a good defender, I need to be ok with being blown by or getting crossed. After I got that figured out, my defense became extremely better because I wasn't afraid of failing anymore. This then translated to shooting because in order to make a lot of shots, you're going to in turn miss. I plan to take this way of thinking any where I go.
In college I want to major in either computer science or mechanical engineering. Throughout my life I have had a love for math. I believe that my interest in math has helped me with basketball because it has made me a better problem solver. It has made me more conditioned on the court to rough circumstances. Instead of hanging my head like most athletes do, I project my voice and uplift my teammates.
I have an acronym that I play through during games, called S.C.H.A.P.E. The "S" stands for spirit. In other words, energy that you bring to the team. The "C" stands for communication. Always talking to your teammates and discussing the challenge at hand. The "H" stands for hustle. The "A" stands for approach. How you approach things is very important. If you're not going to give 100%, don't do it. Lastly, the "E" stands for enhancement. If we enhance or better our environment, it will inspire and uplift our motivation to do certain things. For example, a person with a crowded desk is never going to be able to concentrate, while someone with an organized desk will prosper.
