Basketball has been a passion of mine for as long as I could dribble a ball. From the first moment I stepped onto the court, I have aspired to play at the collegiate level. Playing basketball is a year round commitment for me. I have been playing with my AAU team, Respect the Game, for several years and have also played for years on my parish’s CYO travel team, PAL, as well as my school teams. Possessing strong ball handling skills and a high basketball IQ, have helped me to become one of the leading scorers in all of Nassau County. I have been told by my coaches that I am coachable, reliable, and consistent on the court.
While I have been a part of many different teams over the course of my basketball career thus far, it has not always been an easy path. After trying out for my middle school team as a 7th grader, I was cut from the team in the second round. I took the news hard but I did not let it stop me from accomplishing my goals to continue playing the sport I love. I trained and worked hard, determined not to let this bump in the road affect my dreams. The following year, I made the team as an 8th grader and JV the following year. In my sophomore year, I made the Varsity team, an opportunity that I am most grateful for. After completion of my junior year, I was awarded with All County, Conference Player of the Year, and 8th Team All Long Island. I look forward to playing again in my senior year, as team captain.
I consider myself a well rounded athlete and student and strive to work to my full potential on and off the court. It is important to have a healthy balance between academics and sports and I take both very seriously. Taking AP and Honors courses have helped to prepare me for the rigorous courses I will take in college. Taking an active role in my school and community is something I am most proud of. I participate in both basketball and lacrosse at the Varsity level. While the two sports differ in many ways, working together as a team is a lesson I learn from playing both sports. As a member of the Athletic Leadership Club and the National Honor Society, I lead by example and serve as a role model to my peers. Outside of school, I volunteer my time to a local charity, Friends and Angels. I am looking forward to the challenge of balancing college academics with athletics in the future.
