My name is Derrick Copeland. I am in my final semester as a senior at A.L. Brown-Kannapolis High School in Kannapolis, NC. I’m a 6'0" 160lb starting guard. I have the ability to play the point and the shooting position at a very high level. I'm able to identify and attack the weaknesses of the oponnent. I am a team leader, a team player and a shutdown defender. My school team finished our season at 19-8. Five of those losses were by a combined total of 10 points.
While I was disappointed with finishing the season with a loss in the state championship tournament, there were some high moments of the year. We went 12-2 in conference play (both losses were by a combined total of 3 points). I finished the season with 18 pts. 7 assts. 5 steals (lead team in all categories), along with leading the team in game winning shots, free throws and 3 point shots made.
2012-13 season awards:
Conference Player of the Year
1st team All Conference.
1st team C.M.C Holiday Tournament
Team M.V.P.
1,015 Career total points.
Academically, I hold 3.5 GPA. with an 1100 SAT score and an 18 ACT score. During the summer when time permits, I do volunteer work at Dixon Academy which is a private owned child care center, the Kannapolis Public Library and I serve as a mentor to students at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School. My long term goal is to obtain a degree in Business Administration, have my own sporting goods store and play college and professional basketball. These are all realistic goals that can be achieved with hard work and dedication.
My parents and I will be visiting schools this Spring/ Summer. We look forward to meeting you and talking to you very soon.
Thank You,
Derrick C. Copeland, Jr.
