My goal is to find a college that will be a great fit for me both academically and athletically. I'm not sure what I want to major in yet in school, but I do know that I would like to attend a small to mid-size college where I would fit in personally and have an opportunity to play on the court.
As a player, I am very versatile and can play multiple positions, am productive on offense, and can guard almost every position on defense. I am a good shooter who can come off screens and shoot the ball with confidence, or drive to the basket and shoot or pass. I have been told that I have great instincts on the court, am very coachable, demonstrate strong leadership skills, and have a high basketball IQ. I do like playing multiple sports and also play baseball for my high school and am the starting catcher on varsity. Unfortunately our season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Carmel Christian has been a very successful program over the last few years and we won the North Carolina 3A State Championship during the 2018-19 season. That team was a lot of fun to play on as I had five senior teammates that went on to play Division I. They were very talented and I was excited to make that varsity team as a freshman. Going head to head against those guys in practice was a big challenge that truly made me a better player on the court during games. I learned a lot that year, gained a ton of confidence, and prepared myself for this past season.
As a sophomore I played significant minutes, really started to score and contribute on both ends of the court, and earned my way into the starting lineup for a few games. While we didn't win the state championship, we had a great season. Coach Badgett was very happy with how I played this season and he has been a big part of my development over the past two years. My grades in school have been very good, and continue to get stronger. I am excited about my continued development as a player and the opportunity for success in the future.
During the summer AAU season I play for Team Charlotte, which is a top program nationally, run by former UNC Tarheel and NBA player Jeff McIinnis. My teams coach is Derius McInnis, Jeff's cousin. We play on the UAA circuit and play in the some of the top tournaments across the country, making it to the UAA championship game last year in Atlanta. During the summer I workout with Coach McIinnis during the week with other current and former players, working on our skills and just getting better. It is great because we use the Carmel Christian gym and Coach Badgett is there as well.
