Personal Statement

I am a 6'4" guard from Durham, NC.  I play on the Ravenscroft High School Varsity Basketball Team.  I have a 3.85 GPA, I like competing against top competition on the courts and in my community, and I strive to be of service to others.  I have played competitive travel basketball since age 7.  I have traveled all across the country playing competitive basketball. At home, I have participated in various community service projects and I am a current member of the Key Club (volunteer organization).  In the classroom, I continue to strive for excellence as I value obtaining my educational goals.

I am looking for an institution where I can find the right balance between the classroom and the court.  I have been involved in the Arts, since first grade.  I have a desire to continue to play the string bass and electric bass.  I would like to pursue a university with an outstanding academic reputation in the field of medicine. Ideally, my athletic environment would be one where winning and students succeeding in the classroom is a priority.

  • Elite Showcase
  • 10/20/13 to 10/20/13
  • Ian Dubose (Ravenscroft; Raleigh, NC; NC Prospects) 6’2 SG 2017 – This kid is a strong wing player who is willing to do the dirty work for his squad. Ian was one of the more versatile players in his game. We all know in a showcase game everyone can’t go for 20 plus points or 10 plus assists but Ian looked content to do a little bit of everything out there in order to help his team. His range extends to the three point line but he looked more comfortable shooting the mid-range jumper. Ian really hustled on the defensive end while still playing under control and smart basketball on offense.

  • Ian DuBose (Ravenscroft School/Raleigh, NC) 6'2 SG 2017 - A few years ago at Ravenscroft, after the graduation of Madison Jones to Wake Forest and the transferring of Anton Gill to Hargrave Military Academy, I thought to myself basketball might be down for a couple of years at Ravenscroft. But now I think I was wrong, especially after laying eyes on freshmen prospect Ian DuBose. He seems to be a hard nose guard that does not back down from a challenge, kind of like a former high school player in Raleigh by the name of Dezmine Wells who is now at the University of Maryland. DuBose is a physical guard who doesn't mind contact when driving to the basket and can score over opponents even when it's difficult. He also did a few great things to keep his name in the conversation throughout the weekend. He continuously played hard and solid defense by hitting the glass like a beast for rebounds. In transition he wasn't bad at pushing it up the floor and being unselfish to locate teammates in the open floor to score. Along with that he had a nice mid-range jumper when going one-on-one and creating space to pull up. I can also see why he had the tough mindset that he has; his dad being a correctional officer and mother a school teacher which keeps him well rounded.

  • 6/12/13 to 6/15/13
  • Ian DuBose on NBA All-Star team.
  • Camp/Event
  • Phenom 150 Evaluation Camp
  • 3/23/13 to 3/23/13
  • Ian DuBose is a name you will want to remember as he begins his high school career at Ravenscroft. We are talking about a long and lanky 6’2 8th grader that possesses a high skill set and advanced understanding of the game. We were impressed with his ability to step out and knock down 3 pointers with consistency, but more importantly he has the ability to dribble drive and penetrate at the rim. He can score on various spots on the floor, which makes him a difficult matchup on opposing players. We also liked his approach to the game as he played within the team structure. Easily, he was one of the best players on his team, but he didn’t force or take bad shots. One could tell he has been well schooled and coached and understands how to play the game effectively and take advantages of mismatches during the course of the game. Ian has a long and lanky frame and it will be interesting to see how position he will gravitate to. Currently, he can play multiple positions and as he continues to grow and develop, he will need to gain physical strength, which will maximize his potential.
  • Camp/Event
  • 5 Star Basketball Camp Hampden Sydney College
  • 6/11/12 to 6/14/12
  • Ian DuBose made All-Star team.
  • Camp/Event
  • Basketball Spotlight "Super Showcase"
  • 8/13/11 to 8/13/11
  • Ian Dubose (Durham, NC)- Dubose has range that extends to the 3 point line and also has the touch to score in the lane. He attacks from different angles and is a constant matchup problem for defenders. His stock should continue to rise in the North Carolina area.
