As long as I can remember, people have asked me what I wanted to do and who I wanted to be. I would always make something up or say I don’t know, but the moment I touched a basketball, I knew that no matter what, I needed to be involved in this game. I didn’t know how I would do it, but I knew I needed to.
So I got to work. I wasn’t the biggest, the fastest, or the strongest, and no one else in my family had done it before. But I had one thing that separated me: the fact that I was going to make it no matter what it took and the willingness to work harder than anyone. Slowly, I became faster, stronger, and gained more skills. Along with this, I became a true student athlete. I take my studies very seriously and my grades reflect on that.
I can’t promise to score 30 points every night for your team. But if there’s a loose ball, I’m the first one on the floor diving for it; if there’s a rebound my team needs, I’m grabbing it, and when the lights go off in the gym, I’ll be there. I love basketball more than anything else in this world, and I will do anything my team needs me to if I can step onto that hardwood and play basketball.
