My name is Gabriel Brooks, I attend Red Cloud High School, and I am an enrolled member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe. My family is very involved in our spiritual way of life, speaks the Lakota language at home, and I dance and sing at Pow-wows.
I was taught from a young age that I must be a student first and an athlete second. Moreover, I have learned that basketball can be used as a means to a college education while also being a part of a team . My life long coach put a basketball in my hand at 4 years old and I have loved playing ever since. Being an athlete has taught me perseverance, tenacity, discipline, teamwork, and how to give 110% to everything I do in life. I know I will be a great asset to any team because I work hard, I am coachable, and I put the needs of my team first while grinding in the gym year round.
My academic goals for high school are to graduate with honors and become a member of the National Honor Society. I have already started my college journey by doing dual enrollment at Oglala Lakota College where I currently have a 4.0 college grade point average. When entering college after high school I would like to major in Engineering, Business, or Athletic Training.
