Ever since I can remember and even before that, so I was told, any huge sphere would catch my eye. When I started sitting up, I used to play at our ranch with home grown cantaloupes, I suppose I thought they were basketballs. Well, ever since, that little sphere became my never-ending passion. I began competing at the age of 4 in basketball, baseball, football and soccer and gave 110% in all the sports. However, it was something about the big, round, bouncy sphere that just owned my passion and has kept my interest. The game of basketball is just intriguing to me as my love for the game continues to flourish year after year. The excitement, the feel for the game, the adrenaline, the satisfaction and most of all the challenge to excel in the game enriches my soul. So much to learn, so much to improve and endless days and nights working to master the game. I love this game!
My name is Joseph H. Martinez, I am a 2023 Top 2% academic graduate of Canutillo High School which is located in El Paso, TX. I just completed my fourth basketball season at Canutillo High School. My first year competed at the Junior Varsity as a Freshmen and won the District Championship and the following years competed at the Varsity Level placing third in district and winning bi-district the following years. I turned 18 on September 2, I am 6'4" and weigh 185 lbs. and am a shooting guard and power forward. I have a strong mental knowledge of the game, great ball handling skills, strong leadership qualities, coachable, competitive, and a systematic player with a drive to compete at the next level and follow onto pursue my dream of playing in the NBA. I have received numerous trophies and awards such as tournament MVP, best defensive player, Heart of an Eagle and have been invited to play with many city teams, college camps, and showcases. Aside from playing with my school teams, I also play basketball with two city leagues year round. I have also received numerous awards in baseball and soccer.
My goal is to play for a Division I school that will allow me to earn an engineering degree (Biomedical) while competing in basketball. I love building/designing and challenges that come along with that study. I am committed in my school work as much as I am committed in sports, primarily basketball. I am enrolled in AP Classes and my goal is never letting my grades fall below a 95 grade out of 100. I have been consecutively on the A-Honor Roll since pre-K and all through my middle school and will keep that until I graduate from high school.
On my off time, I also volunteered with the University of Texas-El Paso Men's Basketball Team and was involved with them for approximately six years, I also volunteer at local community shelters and services and with my school clubs, such as but not limited to, National Honor Society, National Junior Honor Society, OKE, Honor Band, Math Club, and Robotics. I was the trumpet section leader and performed a solo during our honor band performance at Carnegie Hall in New York, New York in April 2019. I also received the All-Eagle Award for three consecutive years at my middle school, Canutillo Middle School, which is the highest honor for any student. Alongside, I received the annual Math, Science, Band, History, English, Top Reader, Perfect Attendance, Citizenship, and Won First Place awards for my Science and History Projects for the past three consecutive years. This year I was also inducted into the National Honor Society at Canutillo High School.
I am a natural committed leader focusing on always improving and striving for the best there is out there. I will give you 110% and always welcome constructive criticism. I will not stop until I reach my goals and I will not disappoint. I believe with my strong will and work ethic I can achieve my goals. I was offered over 25+ academic scholarships and 6+ basketball scholarships and am looking for a university which will benefit me both academically and athletically.
