My name is Exavery Felix Gasana. I am an East African native from Tanzania, and 19 years-old. I have been playing basketball for more than six years. I started after seeing my brother play in Tanzania. From the moment I stepped on the court, I fell in love with the game. I've always had the desire to play my best and get to the next level by working hard and smart. I always play to win.
In playing basketball, there have been times when I wasn't the best player over others. However, I take pride in out-working others. I've always wanted to be the best, so I know I have to work when I come across players who may do better. That is what I do. I out-work other players and my coaches have taken notice. I've become known for my work ethic and quick development. Growing taller than my counterparts at a younger age, has also helped.
One year and a half ago I had the chance to come to America for basketball development and school progress. I didn't get here by luck, but because of persistence and consistent hard work. Even though I was tall enough to support my chance of playing in the US, there were other kids as tall as me who were here who grew up playing basketball and who had an advantage. It took a lot of work in Africa to get here, a total of 3 years.
Since I came in the US as a high school student senior, I have aspired to play at the collegiate level. I know that playing in college is an opportunity to change my life and my career. I have a strong physical defense, mental toughness, and high basketball IQ along with skills. I am a leader, during practice and games, leading by example but also encouraging my teammates whenever necessary so we can win games.
I am coachable and assist my coaches with leading practices. I live to be one of the hardest working players that strives to win, and that you will ever see as a recruiter. I have a lot of endurance and always desired to play in the best competitions against the best kids, but I have never had the chance at my high school level and since coming to America. Even though I have been performing well by impact, winning games, and stepping in to lead all my teams to championship games regardless of what schools, tournaments or leagues I was playing in, I have not had a lot of visibility and exposure.
As a student, I have always maintained a high GPA. I also volunteer at local youth basketball camps, and currently volunteer at a food pantry run by a local church every Thursday. I would be delighted to attend a college where I can learn more and develop in both my basketball career to the professional level and an academic career.
I am open to all options available to me, and wish to ultimately get matched to the right college where I belong, not only as my will but God's will too. I am hoping for a college opportunity with the level of competition to prepare me mentally and physically to the NBA Professional level. I believe I can become the best player at an level to influence my generation and the next, and to make my family and friends proud.
