Robert A. Eads, 17, C/O 2025, 6'9.5" Center/Power Forward - Successful playing down low in highly contested matches, and also can shoot 3's on demand. Over 90% on my free throws. Rebounding is a given, but I can also read my team and the game, and IQ is there to pass the ball to garner a successful assist. Loud and verbal with my teammates and believe in great communication with coaching staff. NCAA ID# 2203491640
My name is Robert A. Eads, Jr., from Laredo, Texas. I am 6’9.5” and growing. I turned 17 in March, and I am Class of 2025. I have played organized sports since the age of four. My 8th grade year was the COVID year for our class so pretty much everything stopped. Basketball, however, kept going, this is when I found my passion for basketball. Upon returning to campus as a freshman, I decided to focus solely on basketball.
I learned the value of hard work, discipline and perseverance through basketball. I learned that teamwork, communication and leadership skills are important on and off the court. The strong and positive mindset I possess from being surrounded by like-minded people in basketball taught me to be resilient and to remain positive. I missed part of my junior season due to a minor injury, but that did not stop me. As soon as I could get back out there, I worked harder than ever and still earned the All-District Honorable Mention Award, and also made Top 10 of my team in many areas. In my Junior year, I also broke into the All-time Top 10 for our school that has been running for 25 years, in the total number of Blocks. I am also on track to break the All-time Top 10 in the following areas early next year: Defensive Rebounds, Offensive Rebounds, Total Rebounds, 2 PT FG, Free Throws Made, Turnovers, Scoring Average, and Total Points.
As an athlete, my schedule is tight, but I do make time to volunteer at the local Boys and Girls Club. It makes me smile to see the looks on the children’s faces when they see a “giant” walking in. I enjoy passing on my knowledge to future players. Additionally, as a team, we are the Ambassador class for the Special Education students at our school, attending various events. We also plan and host the Christmas party and gift exchange for the special education students. We walk with our special education classmates in parades and show up for them at many other events at our school and at feeder schools. We also participate and volunteer at the annual Special Olympics. I am all for our special education classmates sharing in the amazing world of sports; all children should be able to experience sports, and I am happy to help in that area.
I am also a dedicated student. I am an A/B student, currently taking Pre-AP and AP courses. Being an athlete involves waking up extra early for the morning practice sessions, staying at school until evening for the afternoon practice session, staying up late to complete my daily assignments and to get some study time in. And then there’s practicing some more and/or attending out of town practice sessions and tournaments. My goal for high school is to graduate with a GPA of 3.5 or higher and continue on to college to obtain a degree in Sports Medicine in the Physical Therapy field, all while continuing to play the sport I love. I am a dedicated student athlete and will do whatever is necessary to continue to improve in the classroom and on the court.
Playing college basketball would be a first in my family, and I would be among very few who have gone on to play basketball from my school. I am determined to make this happen! I am definitely open to all options, and I am grateful for any opportunities presented to me. I know that I will ultimately find the right college match for me. I want this more than anything; not only for me but also for my parents who have sacrificed so much for me. They do it out of pure love, but I know the value of their sacrifices. Of course, I would love to make my entire community proud!
