My character is a direct reflection of my family, my faith and my commitment to grow and learn every day. I am influenced by hard work coming to fruition or resulting in failure because each opens my eyes to a new understanding of me. I am also influenced by all those around me from every socio-economic background as I witness their trials, triumphs and choices which affect their futures. I come from an immigrant family who loves and speaks the universal language of sports! Sports were introduced to me at age 2 and, at that young age, I knew sports would be my lifelong companion. I had always been a 3-sport athlete. Now that I am in high school, I only play basketball. I have some God given skill but my desire to get better at the sport I love leads me to many drills and practices until I can give no more. I have never been the tallest nor strongest member of any team. But I surprise coaches and spectators when they see me in action. I have honed my skills to a level where I can take on bigger opponents confidently. My teammates often come to me for guidance and reassurance. Basketball is not only a game of making baskets. It is an analytical game. It is an unselfish game of passing the ball to score. It is a game of mental endurance and of fighting until the last second. I bring that to any team.
My academic goals in high school are to continue ranking in the top 5% of my class and to continue earning college credit as I have been these past 3 years. For college, my goals are to major in biology and business with hopes of entering medical school. I have been very blessed in that my family has been able to support my basketball dreams. If I had to name an obstacle I’ve had to manage to get where I am, it would be the constant time management to complete my academic goals and my basketball goals simultaneously. I know it will get more complicated in the future, but I have the self-discipline to see me through to the end. Whether in practice or game time, I truly leave it all on the court and I hope I am given that chance to prove it. I respectfully ask for your consideration. Thank you.
