Thomas Carton '13 Recruiting Profile

Hello,
My name is Tom Carton and I am a Junior at Essex High School in Vermont.
As a student I have a 3.5 gpa and I am involved in many extracurriculars. Some of the extracurricular programs that I am involved include the Above the Influence Committee at Essex High School which is a group that helps to promote healthy choices for teens in America. Also I am involved in the Big/Little program that pairs a high school student with a troubled 1st-5th grader and  has us help mentor them. I am also part of the Athletic leadership counil at Essex High School that works with the athletic prgram to help be a leader among the school as a student athlete.

As an athlete I am almost 6'5 and weigh 205lbs. I have a 23in verticle leap, that was measured at a Hoop Mountain Exposure Event in Saratoga NY. Freshman year I played on the Football team, the Junior Varsity Basketball team, and the Varsity track team. Sophomore year I gave up playing Football so I can focus on playing basketball. That same year I was the only Sophomore to make the Varsity basketball team and I was a starter. Also that year I placed 5th at the Vermont State division 1 track meet. Junior year I was awarded  Co-Captain of the Varsity Basketball Team. So far in the season I am leading the team in almost every statistic. I have been called a "hybrid" shooting forward before, that is because I like to play on the perimeter however, I am able to play with my back to the basket.

I am a very hard worker and I am very disciplined. I love playing basketball and have dedicated the past four years too it. I am always the last one to leave the gym after practice and I am always looking to get into a gym to play. I can provide almost any team with a sense of leadership.

When looking for a College I am looking to play at the Division 2 or 3 level at a relatively small school. I want to stay on the East Coast. A warm climate would be ideal because being from Vermont the cold weather can get old after a while. I want a school that is Academically somewhat challenging, however, a place that I can thrive and succeed. When being on a team I would want to be able to play, maybe not start but be able to compete at the highest level possible.
