Hi, my name is Nesta Ngarambe. I am 17 years old, 6’7”, 190 pounds and I am a junior at Blue Ridge School in Saint George, Virginia. I am Rwandan and I transferred to Blue Ridge School in January 2022 for better education, to step out of my comfort zone, and to get the benefits of playing high school athletics in the U.S.
Some of the details in my life that have influenced who I am today are: How I manage my emotions, I realized that my emotions should not distract me and that if I don’t manage my emotions in most situations they are going to manage me. Another detail is punctuality. I always make sure I’m on time for class, practice, and appointments or meetings because I feel like it forms a positive impression on my personality.
I became interested in basketball back in 2018 when my dad was taking me to games back home in Rwanda on Friday nights. But back then I only wanted to watch and not play. During this period I was growing tall at a very fast rate and that’s when my dad and almost everyone around was encouraging me to start playing basketball.
Something I’ve learned about myself through playing this game is that I’m patient when being introduced to new things. I learned this when I realized that getting good at basketball doesn’t happen overnight and that gaining the skills to win also takes time and patience. I have learned that I have self-discipline because I was able to push myself forward and stay motivated regardless of how I was feeling physically, mentally, or emotionally.
My high school academic goals are to improve my SAT score and finish my senior year in 2023 with a 4.0 GPA. My college academic goals are to get a chance to play sports at the collegiate level.
I am a good communicator, I’m resilient and I have a good work ethic. I have great humility to overcome hubris. I’m passionate and empathetic about improving in academics and athletics. I value the opinions of others and strive to show respect and I’m curious to learn from peers and superiors.
