Throughout my life, I have been drawn to the water. At age 4, my dad took me surfing for the first time and I loved it. I began surfing competitively at the age of 8 and competed along the east coast for several years. I made lots of friends and great memories through surfing and it's still one of my favorite activities.
At age 14, I signed up for a club swim team and during the first practice, I tried diving. I took to it immediately and decided to focus on joining the dive team as a freshman. I learned a ton during my first full year as a diver and made it all the way to regionals. The competition was fierce but inspiring. I knew I had work to do but I also knew I had the talent to keep going.
Surfing and diving are my twin passions. Interestingly, in one sport, I'm trying to stay on the board; in the other, my goal is to jump off.
They both require hard work, dedication, fearlessness, intuition and remaining calm in the face of an imminently nerve-wracking experience. I am continuing to learn that if I can conquer a wave or a difficult dive, I can apply those elements to other areas of my life.
My goals are to dive at the collegiate level, earn an undergraduate (and then graduate) degree and to continue to push myself both physically and academically. My current GPA is 4.05 out of 4.5 with a mix of honors and AP classes.
As a sophomore, I won both the County and Conference Championships and made it to the final round of the NC State Diving Championship. I am now ranked in the top16 statewide. This also really helped my fellow swim teammates as I contributed to our total points in the competition.
I will be training and working hard in the off-season to give myself the best shot at the top slot for next year's championships.
