Personal Statement

Dear Coaches,

My name is Nicklaus Ummel and I think I would be a great addition to your collegiate team for multiple reasons. My specific goals are of course to win the NCAA Championship as a team and an individual by bringing all I can to the table and help our team win the NCAA. In addition I am focused on getting to the PGA Tour and being a winner of multiple tournaments. I believe I am a good candidate because I have a great work ethic and I work very hard on the task at hand, but at the same time I like to lighten the mood and make things more enjoyable rather than full of stress. Some things that might make me different than the other players are I like to focus and stay focused until I get the job done and I also like to make sure I have everything done whether its homework or just a drill we are doing as a team before I leave or go and do the fun activities. I look forward to being considered for your team as you look for those golfers in the Class of 2022 as this is my Senior year of High School. Our Spring Season starts in late February 2022 and I intend to finish high at State yet again this year.

Finished T 41 out of 49 players ......( Day one 76 and Day two 83 ). Really struggled on a golf course that I know really well. Realized about 10 mins before my match on Day 1 that the head of my driver had a massive crack across the top and my driving iron had started to splinter in the shaft down by the hosel. Mentally completely through me off and we scrambled to find replacement equipment after the Day 1 round on a Saturday night. Needless to we found a quick replacement but it felt completely foreign to me on Sunday and I did not trust my equipment. Another really important learning lesson that I need to be prepared to expect the unexpected. This is highest number I have ever put up in a tournament since I was 5 years old and it was humbling. I'm putting all of the work in to make sure that I'm more mentally prepared for the next time something happens out of the blue. McDowell played at 6,941 yards / 73.1 / 133 / Par 72

Got my head right and worked on truly trusting my putting stroke. While a big # on Day 1 it was a serious learning experience that I am taking into my next tournaments. Finished T 13 out of 51 players ...... Even for the tournament ( Day one 70 and Day two 74 ). Went -4 on the front 9 of Day 1 and the putter was not as consistent on the back 9. Came back Day 2 and played much more conservative and was unable to make a big push. Top 15 finish was solid as I had not played in a tournament for the past month. Continual learning the balance of aggressive vs conservative play in tournaments. .......... Red Course played at 6,776 yards / 71.5 / 123 / Par 72 and the Gold Course played at 7,080 yards / 73.2 / 130 / Par 72

Injury UPDATE

This is my quick injury update from my accident on July 6th. While in the weight room working on my strength training for my golf swing a complete accident happened. A 45lb weight plate slipped and fell from chest high onto my big right toe. This resulted in (3) fractures, surgery, a boot & crutches and a ton of patience. I am happy to report that I am back on the course, playing holes and feeling like the big toe is almost completely healed. My next tournament back is September 25 / 26th. Thank you, Nicklaus

Nicklaus led the two day tournament and as a Freshman in a full Varsity (20) team High School event finished Day 2 tied for the lead. Going in to sudden death he made a solid par to force his opponent to make a birdie, and while the opponent made the birdie, Nicklaus drained a must make putt under pressure when it mattered most.
