Hi, I’m Timmy Cavarno, and I will be a top tier College Golfer! I’ve been a multi-sport athlete my
whole life (mostly basketball); but with the Covid shutdowns I’ve focused overwhelmingly on
golf the past year. I’ve gone from a 2 handicap to a +2 during that time, shot over a dozen
rounds under par in high level tournaments (AJGA, Toyota Tour, SCPGA, Futures Champions and
VCJGA), multiple 67’s and 68’s, won twice with ten Top 10 finishes in highly competitive junior
events. I’ve doubled my competitive experience during that time versus the rest of my life (no
travel basketball with Covid restricting my golf). I’ve shot a 63 and 64 on my home course,
Redlands CC. I love going low!
I’ve worked extremely hard during that time to transform my body as well as my game, adding
15 pounds to my 6’ 2” frame and about 30 yards to my drives. I’m working with Ron Stockton
on major swing changes to prepare myself for the “next level.” It’s been exciting and
frustrating, a real patience-tester at times. I’ve heard “one step back for two steps forward”
more than I want, but it’s true.
My short game and putting have always been better than most of my peers, but I haven’t
maximized my physical advantage with the long game. Ron tells me I still have “a lot more gas
left in the tank.” Developing that potential into reality is what drives me every day. I often beat
players that have committed to schools I’m interested in, but I’ve been told that I am a “late-
bloomer,” too much basketball and not enough golf tournaments until the past year.
Not being able to meet college coaches since I’ve turned solely to golf has been unfortunate. I
like direct personal contact. The past year has been rough for everyone; but it allowed me to
finish completing my Eagle Scout project, improve my GPA (had a 4.0 last semester), and
opened up time for golf, the sport I love the most and have the highest ceiling in. I’m looking for
a college that’s a fit for me academically, with a golf coach and players to team with.
COVID restrictions on recruiting has put unusual options on the table for how to manage the
college selection process. If a player with my resume and unique potential for continued,
sustained improvement is intriguing… then let’s talk!
