At a young age, I had an interest in sports which was driven by my father's passion, particularly for golf. He was a Division 1 player in college and instilled this interest in golf in me during my middle school years. Unfortunately, my father passed away before I entered high school, but he was influential in shaping my character and work ethic as an athlete and a student. This tragic event in my life made me want to live up to his expectations and continue to achieve greater accomplishments.
Once I started, I instantly had a passion for golf and wanted to keep improving. I have learned patience with golf and determination to meet my goals. I have a strong competitive spirit that drives me to be the best I can be. This part of my character has also transferred to the classroom where I am an honor student. I am part of the National Honor Society and continue to take honors classes, as well as AP classes. My aspirations for college are to major in business and continue to excel in terms of my grades while maintaining a busy golf schedule.
The toughest challenge I have faced on a personal level was the passing of my father. But this also helped me persevere through tough times as a golfer. My father was golf captain in high school and college, and I try to emulate his leadership skills as captain of my team. As a leader, I am resilient and productive as I contribute as much as I can to my team. My freshmen year my team won a conference championship and came fifth in States. Last year, as a sophomore, we did not even make states. This has evolved my skills and temperament positively which helps keep a cohesive team despite winning or losing.
