My name is AJ Hovermale. I'm 17 years old. Im from Sarasota, Florida. I started playing golf when I was less than a year old. There are pictures of me in the basement of my old house, hitting plastic balls with plastic clubs at my dad. Well, at least try to beat them at him. Golf has always been my passion. It has been something my dad and I grew a massive bond with. He was there when I got the ball off the ground for the first time and made my first par. Then, my first birdie. Then, I had my first 18-hole round of golf. Then, my first tournament. After that, my first win. He's been with me the whole step of the way. Golf has been the glue that keeps us together. He's also taught me much stuff, and that has helped me stand out from other junior players. He taught me that when you hit a bad shot or have a bad hole, you have to brush it off. You can't stay mad because that will only cause you to play worse. When I'm on the course and have a bad shot or hole, I just let it go. I move on from it to recover from that hole or that shot. I am currently attending FLVS or Florida Learning Virtual School. I do online school to travel to tournaments around the country and the world. Plus, it allows me to work on schoolwork at my own pace. I don't have to worry about never having enough time to finish an assignment. It just gives me some freedom. It's honestly amazing. I have been doing it for two years and love it. I typically like to do schoolwork on Mondays. That's when the golf course is closed, so I do all my work for the week and hang out with my friends after practice.
