Ryan Carley April...Personal Statement
Throughout the years starting at age 3, I tried soccer, baseball, track, and basketball. I definitely learned a lot, but never found a passion amongst any. Fast forward to 4th grade after receiving a set of golf clubs for Christmas, I was hooked and found a passion within a sport I never knew possible. Currently, I am a Junior at Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley High School, located in central Illinois. Golf has become a part of my life that it is a daily challenge to better my game. Whether it is inside work with a net, putting on a mat, lessons with my instructor (Rick Sellers), golfing at every course I can find, lifting weights to strength my game, finding tournaments to compete in, to being the only teenager invited to compete in Men’s league at my local golf course. I had a great sophomore season and broke many of my personal goals, which means my goals are set even higher. I will continue my golf career competitively in college and throughout my life because I truly love the sport. My current goal is to shoot a 77 consistently (and even lower) and to continue to dedicate myself to a sport I truly love and best of all enjoy every second of it!

- I proceeded from regionals, to sectionals. In this event, I tied with 10 other people to advance to state. This led to a sudden death playoff in which it came down to one other guy and me after 5 holes of sudden death I was even and on the last hole I lost by 1 stroke. I went par, par, birdie, par, bogey.

- For the past 5 years I have taken lessons with Rick Sellers, whom has won the PGA teacher of the year award Illinois Section 4 times. Rick and I work year round, outside in the summer, and in an indoor center in the winter. Rick and I not only continue to work on my swing every week, but we discuss why certain things happen and the mechanics of the golf swing to better my golf knowledge.
